David Weyman – Senior Associate
Why have a tax expert on the public affairs team? Lots of reasons. David brings invaluable experience and knowledge of the Canadian tax system to a variety of client assignments including incorporation of professional corporations, tax implications of sales, mergers and acquisitions, plus help in establishing charitable foundations for social marketing purposes.
David has had an impressive career in Canada and internationally. For many years he was a senior tax partner with KPMG and its predecessor firms, served as an Assistant Deputy Minister Tax Policy in the federal Department of Finance and an Advisor on tax reform to the federal House of Commons Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs.
David received his C.A. in London, England, in British Columbia and in Ontario. He has an L.L.M. (Taxation) from Osgoode Hall Law School, an M.A. (York University) and a B.A .in Mathematics and Law at Trinity College, Cambridge.
He is very adept in negotiations and dispute resolution and in supporting clients or in appearing for clients before government committees and lobbying to obtain changes to tax laws.
